Movie Question

You like movies. You watch movies. Yet often when you discuss movies with others, you'll name a movie and someone will say, "I've never seen that." Your jaw drops. The question is, what movie did you say? What are the top five movies for which, if you ask any random person, would you drop your jaw? This is my list, in reverse chronological order:

Titanic
Jurassic Park
Star Wars
It's A Wonderful Life
The Wizard of Oz

No, it's not that surprising. I get it. But if you haven't seen three of the biggest box office draws ever, or two of the most uplifting films ever made, where have you been?

On a grand scale, Forrest Gump. There are lots of other films that I feel lots of people watch when they are young that I could see making this list. For example, I had not seen The Goonies or A Christmas Story ever until last year, my 23rd year.

A lot of it is cultural, as well. I met some Saudi exchange students two weeks ago who had never heard of the Beatles.

2) E.T.
3) The Sound of Music

Saudi exchange students don't count. anybody from any other culture (including fundamentalist mormons etc) gets a pass.

and also, as someone who has never seen the Goonies and never wants to ever, after a while it's sort of fun to get a "wha wha wha WHAT" reaction from somebody. and at this point, after years of hype, the Goonies could be nothing but a letdown.

As someone who has never seen the Goonies, I totally agree with Winnie on this one. I literally have no desire to watch this movie since it holds such a special place in everyone's heart that saw it as a child. I'm sure it was 10 times more awesome at the age of 7 then it would be for me at the age of 25. This movie will never hold a place in my heart and that's something I have to live with everyday. I will always feel somewhat alienated anytime everyone starts with the 'oh my gah! goonies was such a (fill in the gushing adjective) movie!' Such is life.

I'm doing this so my post can have the highest number of comments ever.

Also, if you're going to have Paul Blart on your list at all, it damn well must be at the top.
