Third and Delaware

Somebody in my life (named Rob) has been on sort of a Roseanne kick lately, and I gotta be honest: it takes a lot to get me psyched up for that show. I was only allowed to watch it sporadically when I was a kid (roll call of shows I was allowed to watch: The Wonder Years, The Cosby Show, Sesame Street, Cheers, Seinfeld, and Frasier. Step by Step, Boy Meets World, Family Matters, etc. etc. Notice the conspicuous lack of the Simpsons and Martin, the two shows I wanted to watch more than any other) and so it never had the forbidden-fruit appeal of Thirtysomething, you know?

Anyway, here's a blog about all the fashion and style on every episode of Roseanne. See if you get any tips for spring fashion...I know I have!

[Thanks to Cafe Con Lesley]

UPDATE: did you know that Thirtysomething, Seasons 1-4 are all on Netflix (some on instant play)??? Thirtysomething party at my house next week!

i was only allowed to watch World News Tonight (w/ Peter Jennings) and Jeopardy. However, sneaking to watch Beavis and Butthead at a friend's house was great childhood mischief.

I was never allowed to watch Roseanne or The Simpsons... and Step by Step was questionable sometimes (Suzanne Somers and Patrick Duffy had their risque moments)

no shows for me that included a dad that acted like an ignorant doofus said my dad. aka the simpsons, roseanne, married with children etc. i remember catching the simpsons at a friends house and feeling pretty guilty.

My mom always thought the sexy parts of Step by Step were ok because they were married...same with Seventh Heaven.

Also Katie! your parents were super progressive and smart about that. I wish mine had realized that was a common theme in all of those shows. it's such a bad message for all kids, that a dad/man is supposed to be passive and drunk and slobby.

ALSO COREY, speaking of passive dads, my dad secretly taped a ton of Beavis and Butthead episodes for later viewing after he and my mom split. talk about sneaky...but I was lovin' it!

ditto on everything clamz sez. you can imagine how "out of it" i am on cultural knowledge of the simpsons. it's funny because now shows where the dads are ignorant asses are everywhere - everybody loves raymond anyone?? two and a half men! according to jim!

one show that straddled the line on this issue was home improvement. yeah, tim was trying to be a "macho" dad, but i felt like he also tried to play against type and understand his family (w/ help from wilson). also, jill wasn't always the shrew-ish wife that debra barone played. jill seemed to actually like tim most of the time...unless he was blowing up her sink.

I could somehow watch Martin, Living Single (our favorite was Maxine, AKA "Max"), A Different World, In Living Color, but not Simpsons (no loss there). I learned what making sweet love was from Martin and Gina. And "Brah Man" was CLASSIC!
