Somebody in my life (named Rob) has been on sort of a Roseanne kick lately, and I gotta be honest: it takes a lot to get me psyched up for that show. I was only allowed to watch it sporadically when I was a kid (roll call of shows I was allowed to watch: The Wonder Years, The Cosby Show, Sesame Street, Cheers, Seinfeld, and Frasier. Step by Step, Boy Meets World, Family Matters, etc. etc. Notice the conspicuous lack of the Simpsons and Martin, the two shows I wanted to watch more than any other) and so it never had the forbidden-fruit appeal of Thirtysomething, you know?

Anyway, here's a blog about all the fashion and style on every episode of Roseanne. See if you get any tips for spring fashion...I know I have!

Halter Romper

Last weekend I found myself at American Apparel. Normally I think "how many different styles of t-shirts do I need" and get bored, when I saw this. It's kind of like the opposite of wholesomewear clothes! And it's new and reasonably priced! Something about this just seems comfortable and appealing. I could just lounge around in it! But would I honestly wear it out?? Maybe with leggings in the wintertime? It's so versatile.

Wholesome Wear!

If you're like me, you wonder where fundamentalists get their swimwear...I mean wholesome wear! The intro to this site, www.wholesomewear.com ("modest clothing for wearever"), says that their bathing suits "highlight the face, rather than the body"...which I seem to remember Jim Bob Duggar saying to explain his kids' bathing suits at a family picnic. I also seem to remember the Taliban.

Prices start at $71.00, which is competitive, I guess, if you were trying to decide between wholesomewear.com and J. Crew. Have you seen people wearing these?

My grandfather gave me a book several Christmases ago about modesty and how there's a new modesty movement going on (as of 1998). You can see it in the Duggar family and in that compound they raided in Texas last year, but where else? Can't you just be modest without making a big deal about it or looking dowdy? Not everything has to be sexualized; there's no shame in wearing a one-piece bathing suit. This stuff is just so very interesting to me--like Quiverfull-interesting--yet the Duggar show is pretty boring, sorry to say.

WINNIE AND SUSAN'S SPRING FLING BIRTHDAY PARTY

My birthday is April 23, and Susan's is April 16, and we're having a birthday/spring fling theme party at my house on April 18. Just so you can plan ahead!!

The biggest thing on my mind lately is what is the best theme for a spring fling party? I know that i want to wear some fly press-on nails and maybe false eyelashes, but is "drag queens" even a party theme?

What are some good themes? Any ideas??????

Last post about Oscars 2009

I thought JoP could use a little brightening up. Even though I don't want to belabor this season's Oscars because a) I thought it was pretty boring b) I don't think Slumdog Millionaire is as good as everyone else thinks it is. After iming with co-workers today about best and worst dressed, I realized that I liked some of the worst dressed (even Miley!) as much as I hate to admit it. So I've assembled my own best dressed below:


Halle Barry. I'm not actually a fan of hers, and generally I find her fashion picks to just be kind of "eh". But something about this looked really great on her last night and I was envious. Her skin tone is really great and her hair really complemented the dress.





















Whoopi Goldberg. I honestly don't know why I'm picking this. I think she made a lot of worst dressed lists. But something about this really spoke to me. As ridiculous as this sounds, I think it's actually tasteful. The print might be a little overwhelming for some, but I think Whoopi looks good.

Miley Cyrus. Another worst dressed on most lists, but I have to be honest - this dress caught my eye last night. When they were doing those dumb award show entrances and I was numbed out of my mind on Nyquil, this dress held my attention. Today I read about how much people hated the belt. Which, given. The belt is a little juvenile, but hey - she's 16 and sleeping with a 20 year old underwear model - let her have the belt! I hate Miley (or do I? Hannah Montana is oddly entertaining...), but I think this dress complements her skin tone and is majestic enough for the
Oscars.

















Reese Witherspoon. I really loved the blue richness and the strap placement. It was unexpected. I even think this would have looked great as a shorter dress - maybe cut off with a fuller width around her knees? Sometimes she comes off look a little too old (her own Oscar winning dress, anyone? Bueller? Bueller?). But seriously - I think this makes her look young and it went great with the Oscar stage as well as on the red carpet. I'm jealous.



















Mickey Rourke. I included this one for you, Winnie. But it's a shame he didn't win an Oscar. He clearly put a lot of thought into his outfit and if you look closely you can see his beloved dog around his neck

Tilda Swinton. This one's for you Thomas. I mean do I expect anything more from her? But still - awesome.



























Jennifer Aniston. I'm more of a Jennifer fan than Angelina these days. Angelina just bores me with her fashion choices - which I get is her point because she's photographed all the time, less money for every picture in which she's basically wearing some version of black and grey, yawn. Lame. Jennifer's dress is fresh and some might say "90's prom dress" (Paddles), I say - cute. And I would wear it. I even like the California Dreamin' braid at the top of her head. Even with a date as lame as John Mayer, I think Jen still managed to look good.





















Lisa Rinna. I love it! What a hot mess! Does anyone remember her talk show with Ty Treadway, (of One Life to Live) Soap Talk? That thing was a riot. Just like this outfit!

Carine & Charlotte

It's rumored that Anna Wintour will get fired this holiday season. When will this economy stop making me suffer? If it turns out the new hire rumors are true the editor of French Vogue, Carine Roitfeld, will become the new editor of American Vogue. She seems really cool! In a Parisian way, but also in a fashion world way. I just found this out when I was googling images of her, but she's on Time's list of 100 Influential People of 2008. They say, "she has an innate ability to mix street culture and society, always avoiding the caricatures that can define both worlds and always recognizing the mix of both worlds as the only catalyst of energy and creativity". She also kind of looks like Iggy Pop.

French Vogue doesn't seem as focused on typical beauties and boring models. IE Charlotte Gainsbourg got a whole issue to guest-edit! The cover looks really awesome.

She's a little overly-styled, but still. I want to read this issue. I find her whole family fascinating.

"we've all worn confederate flags to school before"

This girl tried to wear a confederate flag dress to prom, and it isn't even pretty. I could understand her situation maybe a little better if the dress was really lovely and expensive and made her look like a wonderful princess, but (and I'm sorry, Jacqueline) it looks awful.
