Coffee shop review!

I'm new in town and I don't know very much, and so on my walk home from class today I stopped in at Jessee's. This place never looks crowded, but I walk/ride by it often and I was curious. I also didn't want to go to Open Eye (I am increasingly not really into Open Eye).

This place is really nice and clean and well lit with a breezy feel, and most notably of all it has a 99 sanitation grade. Which is crazy for Chapel Hill/Carrboro! (side note: can anyone tell me what the deal is with all the ~90 grades around here?? it's UNCANNY and sort of weirds me out how pretty much every restaurant has an identical grade) The point is that they "get it," and they're eager to please. The staff was really friendly, as part of that; they were also competent. My mushroom-and-garlic quiche was delivered with a little green salad, which was nice, and the coffee is real good too.

I like this place and I want it to succeed, so I'll give it a 9.0!

oh yeaaaaah. it took me forever to figure out what place you were talking about. i had to go to the place's website and look at the pictures. padgett station used to be there up until now, which was a nice place. hmm. jesse's seems OK! also, have you been to 3 cups yet? josh would probably want to know.
p.s. do you notice every place in carrboro uses those giant shade canvases? they're nice, its just that...everyone uses them...kind of homogenous.

i've never understood why people like open eye. unfriendly service and sitting in a bomb shelter setting must really be something that only carrboro/ch-ites can appreciate. i liked padgett station so i was a little hesitant about jessee's. but i guess it's worth checking out. but i wish they would get rid of that flashing neon OPEN sign. it's hideous.

on another note - could chapel hill actually get some good restaurants? i can maybe - maybe! name 2 restaurants on franklin street that are decent.

Let's get some more tags on this one

Ha! Open Eye is a bomb shelter; very uninviting.
3 Cups is great- and was even better when it was located next to Sandwich (i heard the property owner of the buildings in that pocket alley is an ass, which is why most of those store fronts are empty; and now Loco Pops is gone too). Padgett was good. If I'm around campus, I usually just go to the Daily Grind. I don't think there's a Tate St. equivalent within walking distance to campus; which is sad.

East Franklin sucks for restaurants. Pepper's is pretty much it, and they're not even as good as they used to be (what happened to the whole wheat crust option?).

yeah, i guess if you want a wheat crust option you just have to go to brixx! also-yes, i cannot complain enough about the horrible service at open eye. they are so unfriendly it makes me sick.
i once went in right after they opened on my way to work. i was kind of in a rush-but they just sat there at the counter counting money not asking what i wanted for atleast a whole minute. i can understand counting money and not wanting to lose your place....but there were two of them!
also they expect you to just know which drink is yours if they place it up on the counter. and boy do they hate to call out the name of the drink more than once!

I didn't like padgett very much and I've never really liked open eye, but I've been to Jessee's twice now and I definitely want them to succeed. They open early, have good coffee, and have great breakfast options. $4.25 for a breakfast burrito!? In carrboro!? Sold.
