F you Lady Gaga

I heard a good song last night and was looking it up to hear at work. I found it here:

Boys - Sabrina

Search results also turned up "Boys Boys Boys," another piece of crap by Lady Gaga. I always knew I disliked her because of her obnoxious style, but I wanted to be sure, so I gave it a listen. BLECHH!

The only good part of "Boys Boys Boys" is the bridge, and even then I'm making a concession. Why does all music sound the same right now? If I didn't know this was Lady Gaga, I'd think it was Xtina or Pussycat Dolls or Bratz or whoever else is on the radio all the time. Maybe the horrible songwriting distinguishes it from those guys, because Lady Gaga is actually trying but still fails. "Let's go see the Killers and make out in the bleachers" is my favorite line from the song because it sums up so much about how she sucks. Who knew I'd be yearning for the days when Amy Winehouse was my biggest complaint?

Here's another thing, and maybe this explains my Winehouse problem too: I'm suspicious of any "musician" who needs to do something nutty with their appearance to gain fame. Obviously! KISS, Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga: what do they all have in common besides their looks? Their lack of talent. Yes, I get that they are also performers, and yes, I get that they need to sell tickets. That doesn't mean they're talented musicians though, and it's just not for me personally. It is also very annoying how ubiquitous these people become, now and as they age into "legend" status.

Anyway, focus on Sabrina's song. The chorus is soooooo catchy.

Can I say one thing? I like this blog, I like the content, it's very entertaining. But I have issues with the new layout. Words like cumbersome, bulky and inconvenient spring to mind.

Look. I realize that blogs need to constantly change to keep people interested. I get that. But I really liked the old JOP style. Why change something that worked so well? The New York Yankees haven't changed their uniforms in 100 years and they still win the World Series almost every year.

I'm not suggesting we start using typewriters again, okay? Just bring back the old layout please.

Thanks,
Concerned reader Denise

i'm sorry to upset you denise. i know this must be a tough time for you and all - with charlie sheen and his new wife having twins AND jOp getting redesigned. you must really be wishing you had your E! reality show to fall back on. i'm sorry that was taken away from you because it was boring. i hope the st. patrick's day theme will brighten your spirits.

I'd like to point out that not all performers who dress-to-shock are bad or talentless. Genesis became famous after Peter Gabriel made them dress up like vegetables on television, and David Bowie/Ziggy Stardust is the prince of glam-rock. I think it's hard to argue that they are no-talent stains on popular culture like KISS.

good point, but let me add that Peter Gabriel/Genesis and David Bowie are not best-known for their outfits; their music is and always has been the focus. can't say the same for KISS though.

another thing about Lady Gaga: how hard is she trying with that name??!?? too hard!

I think you can argue that David Bowie is best-known for his outfits in a lot of circles.

Lady Gaga's real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. I don't think Lady Gaga is that much of a leap.
